Singer’s anxiety

It never fails. Before any performance, especially when we are singing at a new venue, my nerves go into overdrive. I feel restless, my heart beats a little faster, and I can’t help but wake up every few hours or so. It is 4:00 in the morning and I can feel the butterflies really turning it up a notch in my stomach… what’s a singer to do?!?

Well, I try to keep calm. I take deep breaths or work on some breathing exercises (thank you Heather!). Sometimes I meditate, do visualization exercises, and definitely pray.

Sometimes I take this time to review the music or go over the lyrics again. It’s great to take this time to go over what was discussed at our practice sessions (i.e. Take a breath here, crescendo there, etc.).

Sometimes it’s blogging a post on our website. This will be my first post ever. Yay!

And lastly, I remind myself to have fun. Each member of our group loves to sing and there is so much joy felt when we perform together. It is so much fun when I get to sing with my friends and the nerves go away on stage because I know I have 4 others always there with love & support!  Thank you Babylyne, Theresa, Cerise, & Heather!
